A HISTORY OF BROWNSTOWN NAZARNE
Here’s how our beginnings began.
After much prayer from a small group of Christian people in 1933, tent meetings, cottage prayer meetings, and a four-week tent meeting and revival in 1935, the Brownstown Church of the Nazarene was organized on September 29, 1935, by the District Superintendent. There were 10 charter members that day, and nine more were received into membership at the end of the 30 days.
It began when a house at 220 S Main Street was converted into a church. It was later moved to the back of the lot and a basement was constructed, finished, and dedicated In 1944. In 1947, the upper structure began and was completed. In the mid-1960s, a parsonage was built on Water Street. In the late 1960s, an annex was added on the back of the church. In the 1970s, two lots were purchased across the street for additional parking and a Fellowship House. In early 1980, the church purchased property on Highway 50 (our current location) and additional land in 1982. In 1992, the church on Main Street was sold. They began construction on the new facility on Highway 50. We began worshipping at the elementary school on Sundays and at Hoosier Christian Village on Wednesday evenings. The new church was completed, and a dedication service was held on November 14, 1993.

We are celebrating the whole month of September with different activities each Sunday. On September 7, our current Pastor Tim Lichtley will be speaking on continuing our legacy. On the 14th, we will be in Revival with Billy Huddleston, a tenured evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene, who is both Biblical and engaging. Larry and Trish Jewett will be our song evangelists. Revival will continue through Wednesday evening. On the 21st, Meredith Moser, a former youth pastor, will be speaking. We invite all former attendees to join us for this service, and a pitch-in lunch will be served after the morning service. On the 28th, concert/speaker “Life is Good Tour” with Billy Ballenger. Check out his website at www.billyballenger.com. He has an unbelievable story to tell - both he and his wife. You will not want to miss this event.
